If you've ever listened to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds you may know this song from Tender Prey, their 1988 album. It was the first album from Nick Cave that I liked after the Birthday Party and this song is so awesome. Eerie, and it draws you into the story...I've loved it for fifteen years, and although Nick Cave is one of those guys that I really want to like, i just can't get into all of the weirder stuff he does. I like noise and odd sounds if they're crafted around a song, but his beat-heavy stuff and weirder poetry stuff is hard for me to digest... but anyway, I loved this stripped down version that Johnny Cash did of The Mercy Seat. And the fact that a mainstream, internationally-known dude (I mean, they're making a movie with A-listers about the guy) did a Nick Cave song is just so cool to me. And did it well, too.
