So about 6 years ago, on April 23, 2002, I posted some photos in Randumb Notes of Johnny Thunders, including one from the 80s where he'd gone a little bonkers with the gear. That was eleven year after Thunders had died. Heres what I wrote:

I spent yesterday afternoon and last night, and the better part of this morning's early hours, in the studio with Jim Greco and Jimmy Moore, recording some songs. Greco has always been charismatic, but his sobriety has been good for him. He's got a focus that's scary, a constant, urgent sense of being "on," and that all-eyes-on-me attitude...He's a great guitar player and songwriter and he has a very strong, unique sense of where he's headed. Although the session was a little long, it was definitely great to record those guys. And Jimmy Moore on the guitar? Forget it--amazing!

The iPod is up to 1456 songs right now. It's probably pretty boring to read about me and my silly little juke box, so I'll stop after recommending these things to anyone interested in carrying a lot of music with them for whatever reason. It's a mobile DJ studio in the palm of your hand! Just add speakers...

Johnny Thunders died eleven years ago today. He's another one of those characters that tears me up. I love his whole deal -- the music, the pity-me look that girls love because they feel they need to rescue him, and he'll let them rescue him, the rock look that says f-it to everything. But of course he was a doper and I still have a hard time understanding how that happens to people. Actually, though, I understand that people's realities are so much different from my own that there's no way I'll understand their deals until I'm there myself... still it's foreign to me.
